At Wetopia, we believe in the transformative power of place. When you tap into the unique essence of a place—its people, nature, history, culture, and energy—it sparks something powerful. With Wetopia, we want people to experience this firsthand: to see how a place can come alive when you truly connect with its soul. And there’s no better place to witness this magic than Marseille.
🏙️ Discovering the Soul of Marseille
For the past five years, I’ve been immersed in the art of unlocking the potential of neighbourhoods, cultural hubs, and social spaces. Whether working with local residents, workers, or visitors, my mission has been to understand the true essence of a place and to use that understanding to spark meaningful change.
But if there’s one city that holds a special place in my heart, it’s Marseille.
Alongside my work as a social designer for various Wetopia community projects in Cape Town, Brussels, and Oostende, Marseille isn’t just a place of work—it’s home. For the past eight years, I’ve also been organising urban field trips here, helping people experience the city through the eyes of its social innovators and creative change makers.
That’s the magic of a Wetopia field trip in Marseille: you don’t just see the city, you feel its pulse. Through meaningful encounters with locals and deep dives into grassroots projects, you get to experience Marseille as a living, breathing community.
🌿 Marseille: Beyond the Clichés
Marseille is more than its sun-soaked port and rugged charm. It’s a city of resilience, creativity, and deep-rooted social innovation. This city welcomed me with open arms, and now I want to share that authentic spirit—not through surface-level tours, but through genuine connection and exchange.
Wetopia field trips are about participation, not just observation. We create spaces where locals and visitors exchange ideas, collaborate, and inspire each other. The goal is to shine a light on the incredible people and projects driving Marseille forward—and to make sure visitors leave not just informed, but inspired.
When visitors return home with fresh insights, when local initiatives gain real support, and when Marseille’s story is told through new perspectives—that’s when we know we’ve made an impact.
🚶♀️ 1,000+ Visitors, Countless Connections
Over the years, we’ve welcomed more than 1,000 visitors, activists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, social workers, youth workers, educators, designers, and students from Belgium, the Netherlands, and the U.S. They don’t just come to see Marseille, they come to give back.
Our conversations have spanned everything from coexistence and super-diversity to feminism, urbanism, and food justice. The result? Lasting connections, fresh perspectives, and real change, both for the visitors and for Marseille itself.
Marseille isn’t just a place. It’s a story: one that’s still being written. Come be part of it.
