Wetopia in Mathare, Nairobi.

In collaboration with Living Lab Nairobi we developed a first Wetopia workshop to co-create energy solutions between the residents of the informal settlement Mathare in Nairobi (Kenya), experts and policy makers.

In this first workshop during Covid19 times, the residents and Nairobi team (lead by Amollo Ambole and Julia Kamuiro from Living Lab Nairobi) gather in Mathare Hall and the South Africa, United Kingdom and Wetopia teams are connected online to work together through a regenerative development approach seeing collectively the place-based potential of Mathare.

Joke Quintens & Kevin Kimwelle (Wetopia): “It is a hard and challenging place for people who live there. That’s why it’s important to invite the residents to co-create with experts and politicians the best solutions for better accessibility to energy.”

Wetopia interventions aim to create " us " between people who do not always know each other but share the same place or neighbourhood. Starting from the love for and thus the potential of that place, we work together on social challenges and challenging questions.
